For a few weeks now I’ve been watching WordPress’ Daily Prompt emails come through my inbox. I’ve found them interesting and very doable, IF I had the time to write a thoughtful blog to each daily prompt. But now that I think about it, there is a challenge to this daily exercise, one that tempts an artist (especially this one) to expand outside their box and think on the fly.
Here are a few examples:
1. Pick a letter, any letter. Now, write a story, poem, or post in which every line starts with that letter. Photographers, artists, poets: show us SYMMETRY.
2. How do you pick what blogs or books to read? What’s the one thing that will get you to pick up a book or click on a link every single time? Photographers, artists, poets: show us CHOICES.
3. Describe what it feels like to hear a beautiful piece of music or see a stunning piece of art. Photographers, artists, poets: show us BEAUTY.
4. Write a post about anything you’d like, but be sure to include this sentence somewhere in the final paragraph: “He tried to hit me with a forklift!” Photographers, artists, poets: show us a NON SEQUITUR.
Today’s prompt is Mix Tape Masterpiece
You make a new friend. Make them a mix tape (or playlist, for the younger folks) that tells them who you are through song. Photographers, artists, poets: show us MUSIC.
When I first saw this, only two songs came to mind.
I’m Blue by Eiffel and I’m A Barbie Girl by Aqua, but then I was like, ‘Oh, they don’t want a funky beat cause let’s face it, the lyrics to these songs are far from positive. If I added these to my playlist, if these were the only songs I used to describe me, my new friend would be calling for a straightjacket.’
So here we go:
Dust in the Wind
Forever and Ever, Amen
I Hope You Dance
How Do You Like Me Now
When Mercy Found Me
Take Me In (Holy of Holies)
I Am Yours Lord
Jesus Rides the Subway
Who Am I
